Essential Oils for Massage

Now that you have a few simple recipes to make your own massage oil, let's talk about different essential oils you can use.

Uplifting

AromaTouch - This is my absolute favorite! It is a special blend created by doTERRA that is known as the Massage Blend. It contains Cypress, Peppermint, Marjoram, Basil, Grapefruit, and Lavender. You're going to see several of these oils in this list. The oils were chosen because they are known for their comforting and relaxing aromas.

Bergamot - Bergamot gives you the best of two worlds. It is calming and uplifting. It has a spicy citrus smell with a hint of floral.

Citrus Bliss - This is a citrus blend that combines Wild Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit, Mandarin, Bergamot, Tangerine, and Clementine. Citrus lovers would love to have this uplifting scent added to their massage.

ClaryCalm - This is another special blend that was created to support women. This one is perfect for use during menopause and menstruation. This one has a floral, coniferous, and herbal smell.

Geranium - Looking for the perfect oil for a couple's massage? This is your oil. It can promote calm and has a sweet, floral aroma.

Lavender - Lavender is known for its calming effect. So many people use it as their sleep oil, and it is safe to use for all ages. This is the perfect oil for a calming massage.

Ylang Ylang  - Ylang Ylang can help reduce stress and has a sweet, spicy aroma.

Soothing

Deep Blue - If you have not been introduced to Deep Blue before, it is time! This oil is cooling and comforting. It is perfect for sore muscles.

Cypress - Clean, fresh, and woody. Cypress is great to use by itself or even better with a citrus oils like Lime or Grapefruit.

Eucalyptus - I highly suggest this one to help open  airways. You can soothe muscles and promote clear breathing.

Marjoram - This one is fantastic for tired and sore muscles. Just get done with a tough workout? Try a Marjoram massage. Were you on your feet all day? Try Marjoram. It has a warm and woody smell.

Vetiver - This is my sleep oil. Add this to a massage before bedtime and you are in for a FANTASTIC night's rest. It has a sweet, woody, caramel smell.

Wintergreen - This one is great because it is both soothing and warming. Many people love its sweet, minty smell. Make sure to dilute this one.

These are just a few ideas. There are so many more, and you can combine several oils together. Here are a few combinations to try:

  • Ravintsara, Copaiba, Wintergreen
  • Basil and Wintergreen
  • Marjoram, Lavender, Peppermint, Cypress
  • Rosemary and Wintergreen
  • Neroli Touch, Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Marjoram
  • Ylang  Ylang, Lavender, Vanilla, Peppermint, Tangerine
