Why I Don't Follow My Heart

This has been on my heart for awhile now.  I know not everyone will agree, but I'm going to share. 

The world is constantly telling us to...

Follow your heart.

Just "do you."

Listen to your feelings.

No.

Why Not?

What happens when we do this? We don't keep our commitments. We quit our jobs because we just feel like it. We walk away from a friendship because of an argument. We leave a marriage because of a hard season.  We leave a church because we are "'bored." We abandon family out of anger. We would miss opportunities because we feel like they are "too hard." And so much more...

Let's look at the ultimate authority - God's Word. 

Proverbs 12:15 - The Way of the fool is right in his own eyes. 

Proverbs 28:26 - Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool. 

Jeremiah 17:9 - The heart is deceitful above all things.  

Proverbs 14:12 - There is a way that seems right to a man, but it's end is the way to death.  

Proverbs 3:5 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding

Feelings are fickle. They come and go. They change with moods, attitudes, influences, diet, and even hormones. Feelings are not permanent things and cannot be trusted to help make permanent decisions. People use the excuse "God told me," to justify something. God will NEVER tell us something that goes against his word. NEVER. 

God's Word Directs True

Check everything against God's word. Take time to seek God. 

Every decision needs to be weighed against God's Word. Against truth. Against eternal consequences. 

Our flesh is strong. Our temptations are strong. Our feelings are strong. But GOD is stronger.

Let me leave you with this...

Our time on earth is SO short, like a vapor.

Our decisions NOW will affect forever, so don't let your feelings determine your eternity.
