9 Uses for Arborvitae
Let's talk about Arborvitae essential oil.
The Arborvitae tree is also known as the Western Red Cedar. The Latin of arborvitae is "tree of life." The oil is steam distilled from the aromatic wood of these evergreen trees. The oil can be described as warm and woody.
Arborvitae essential oil is concentrated in tropolones, such as hinokitiol, which are a group of chemical compounds that protect against environmental and seasonal threats and have powerful purifying properties. These compounds also contribute to Arborvitae's natural insect repellent properties.
In this short video I share some of my favorite uses for Arborvitae.

Benefits
Arborvitae oil is known for its calming effects. That's why it is a great option to help achieve mindfulness during your meditation and yoga practices. For me it is my all time favorite sleep oil. A few drops of this in the diffuser at night and I get a lovely, deep sleep.
The oil also has cleansing properties that can be used for wood furniture, and it is a great option for a home treatment for skin blemishes.
Uses
Air Cleaner - ditch the Lysol and use Arborvitae to make a natural purifier and cleaner. Add a few drops of Arborvitae and Lemon essential oils to a spray bottle with water.
Surface Cleaner - You can add a few drops of Arborvitae to a spray bottle with some water. Then you can spray it on surfaces (or even your hands!) for a quick and easy DIY cleaner.
Wood Polish - Check out this Natural Wood Polish recipe using Arborvitae. Such a great and natural way to care for your wood furniture!

Natural DIY Face Mask - Want a simple homemade facemask? Do you have skin blemishes on your face? Look no further! This is also a simple DIY honey face mask. Just combine one or two drops each of Arborvitae and Bergamot essential oil to a tablespoon of honey. Rub it gently ito your skin. Then after 5-15 minutes wash the mask off with warm water and a washcloth. Arborvitae can promote clear, healthy-looking skin and reduce the appearance of blemishes so this is a perfect use for it!
Skin Care - You can also apply Arborvitae directly to your face, for all of the reasons mentioned above. It also has a calming aroma, so you can enjoy that benefit as you treat your skin!
Bug Repellent - Arborvitae has chemical constituents that contribute to it being a natural insect repellent. Apply a little to your wrists and ankles when headed outside to help keep the pests away.
Diffuse - There are several benefits to diffusing Arborvitae. I diffuse it for sleep. You can also diffuse it to help cleanse the air or to help repel insects in your home.

Meditation - Arborvitae can be calming and grounding. That makes it great for your meditation or yoga practices. You can diffuse a few drops, or add a little behind your ears and on your wrists.
Sleep - I told you this was my sleep oil. Really. When I want a deep sleep I put several drops of Arborvitae in the diffuser next to my bed at night. I have the craziest dreams when I do this because I get into such a deep sleep!
